Connecting lines
2012
Momoi Elementary School, Tokyo

A workshop combining the mediums of collage and drawing. In the first exercise, participants flicked through various magazines to collect images which contained lines of different kinds, and then created a collage on a piece of paper in which the images were connected together as a comntinuous line. The next activity introduced rollers and acrylic paint. On two A3 sheets of paper, participants freely created a single line that started and ended at the edge of the paper. Then using the entire classroom, the participants were encouraged to join their lines with another’s until everyone’s line was connected.
In the main activity of the workshop, the participants were encouraged to imagine a large white sheet covering the whole floor of the room as an ocean, creating a collage to form a new world map using colored sugar paper.
